Overview
by Lissa Poirot
When Westin took over this hotel property just off of the freeway entering Sacramento, it did so with a full multi-million-dollar renovations in 2015. A smaller property for the Westin family, it is no doubt a Westin with its luxurious furnishings and family-friendly offerings.
Located on the Sacrament River, the hotel’s rooms and public spaces overlook the river and a marina for a quiet reprieve in a major California city. Its location along the American River Bike Trail connects the hotel to 32 miles of paved bike paths leading all the way to Folsom, for families looking to enjoy an energetic stay. (Bike cruisers are available at the hotel.)

Rollaway beds are not available, but instead air beds are provided if you require additional bedding. Only two cribs are available at the hotel and are at a first-come, first-served basis so call to reserve at time of booking.
Fun Fact: The hotel services many NBA players and has extended beds, by request, for taller guests needing longer beds.
Junior Suites
The best rooms for families are the Westin's Junior Suites, which feature a king bed and a pullout sofa to comfortably sleep four at night, but provides living space during the day. Four suites are connected to rooms with two queen beds to provide two-bedroom accommodations that can sleep up to eight.
Standard Guestrooms
Standard rooms are outfitted with a king bed with sitting area or two double beds. All rooms feature oversized bathrooms with separate showers and claw-foot tubs (save for wheelchair accessible rooms and two rooms with Jacuzzi tubs.) Rooms feature flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-refrigerators.
All River View rooms feature balconies overlooking the river. These rooms come at a premium over the rooms facing the hotel's front.

It was a quick getaway with my wife and our daughter. Just one night. The images of this property looked amazing (right on the water) Dog-friendly (a huge plus) Free Parking - Love it. We loved those things, but everything else was just average. Nothing particularly terrible, but nothing wowed us - not one thing. Rooms are average. The hotel is right by Freeway (one side river view the other Freeway). Restaurant coffee taste like water. etc. Would I return? Unfortunately, no. I would stick with boutique hotels.

The Westin Sacramento (now a Marriott property) is an older hotel that looks to have undergone a renovation recently. The rooms are nice, reachable by elevator or stairs (there are only 3 floors), and if you ask for an even-numbered room, you will get a great view of the grounds, the Sacramento River, and the Sacramento Yacht Club.
The housekeeping staff were very friendly and professional, and attended to all the little details. They also gave us a $5 credir toward food/drink if we opted for the "green" progarm by skipping a day (we did 2) of housecleaning services.
Although there is not a bar on property, that is not a problem, because the Westin is virtually connected to Scott's Seafood, the restaurant that is on the grounds.
Scott's handles all of the drinks and food required by Westin guests. They are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 24-hour room service. I ordered something not even on their sandwich menu, and they provided it for me. They have a well-stocked bar, and some great dishes.
.
Parking at the hotel is easy, with valet parking for $10 a shot, or $27 for overnight. You can also choose self-parking for no additional cost.
I was there for my son's wedding, and outside they have a descending staircase, leading to a grassy area, complete with pedestal and archway overlooking he river, and under which (the arch, not the river) a super wedding can be held.
Adjacent to this area is a large tent, complete with flaps (in case it is too cool or windy), and fans in case it is too warm. We had great weather and the reception was excellent and accomodated about 145 people.
The other great thing about the Westin is that it is right next to I-5, which runs thru old Sacramento, and is also only about 20 minutes from the airport..
I highly recommend this hotel for families and/or couples due to its convenient location and amenities.
Family Activities
Bike Trails
The Westin is situated on the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail and American River Bike Trail and provides cruisers for families to rent during their stay. The more than 30 miles of trails are paved and easy to enjoy, although the cruisers available are only men's and women's and no children's bikes or infant carriers are available through the hotel. However, that doesn't mean you can't bring your own bikes to enjoy the trails!
Swimming Pool
A small swimming pool is available with ample cushioned lounge chair seating and umbrellas. A small hot tub is located near the pool.
Bocce
Two Bocce ball courts are located along the riverfront, beside three large fire pits with Adirondack chars. The area is popular in the evenings, after a day touring Sacramento.
Family Dining
Scott's Seafood
Onsite dining is available all day at Scott's Seafood, off of the lobby. The indoor/outdoor restaurant provides more than just seafood and begins serving breakfast as early as 6 a.m. Lunch, dinner and all-day dining is served until 10 p.m., and room service is available. A kids' menu is available at the restaurant and through room service.
After 10 p.m., cold food options are available in the lobby.
