Big families will love the beautiful three-bedroom Grand Suite at the Wellwood B&B. Each room contains a queen bed, and one has an additional twin Murphy bed. There’s also a spacious living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen, with refrigerator, stove, oven, coffeemaker and microwave. Breakfast foods are stocked in the kitchen so you can eat on your own schedule. Other amenities include satellite TV and free Wi-Fi.
Kids will love the nature trails that cross the property behind the B&B. You can walk for miles through the Wellwood Nature Preserve, following Willow Creek as it meanders its way to the Tonsina River. You can also walk directly from your B&B to the Tonsina River to fish for king and sockeye salmon. Nearby is the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, where you’ll see glaciers, wildlife and volcanoes. It’s a 90-minute drive, best made via the Kennicott Shuttle, to the abandoned ghost town at Kennicott Historical Mine. With its wonderful access to nature trails, fishing and the largest national park in the country, the Wellwood B&B is an ideal choice for your family vacation to the Copper Valley.

The B&B is in a separate wing of a local home, with bedrooms, shared bath, a common sitting area and kitchen. The hosts live on the other side of the home, and leave delicious food for you to prepare at your leisure for breakfast (good variety, too). The rooms are very clean and nicely furnished; it feels like home. Although there were other people both nights I stayed there, the shared bathroom was not a problem, and neither was noise. Since I arrived after 8PM, the hosts offered to call a local restaurant to see if it was still serving--very helpful! The location was ideal for me--just a few minutes from the meeting place for my shuttle into Wrangell-St Elias National Park. As a solo female traveler, I felt absolutely safe in the home and surrounding neighborhood.

We stayed here before our early morning flight to McCarthy/Kennicott via Chitina. It was our first experience in a bed and breakfast, Dave was very patient and explained everything to us - showing us what food, area etc were ours. The home and bed were very comfortable. Breakfast has so many selections you couldn’t eat them all for sure. Cereal, milk, orange juice, yogurt, eggs, cut fruit bowl, toast, jam, muffins. The bread provided was amazing!!
There was one other person staying while we were there but due to our schedules we saw very little off.
Would definitely recommend :)
