Samana is a province located on the northeastern tip of the Dominican Republic. It is bordered to the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean. The southern portion of Samana, where you’ll find Vista Mare Samana, is bordered by Samana Bay.

Vista Mare Samana, maintained by the Xeliter Hotel Group, consists of more than 100 apartment-style rooms. Units have anywhere from one to three bedrooms; all rooms have breathtaking views of Samana Bay and nearby Cayo Levatando. Each room comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer, making Vista Mare Samana a natural fit for families on the go.

There are two private beaches for guests to enjoy. Both are located at the bottom of a steep hill that can challenge even the most fit of sunbathers upon the return ascent. The water of Samana Bay, while beautiful, can be quite rough and not conducive to swimming. One of the beaches has a bar, but we didn’t see it open during our stay.

For those choosing to forego a beach excursion, Vista Mare Samana boasts a tranquil infinity pool. The pool location makes exceptional use of the naturally hilly terrain to provide exquisite views of Samana Bay and the Dominican sunset. In the surrounding area, visitors will find a few well-maintained loungers and ample shade.

Foodies looking to stay at Vista Mare Samana will enjoy El Cayo, the sole restaurant located on the property. With affordable lobster (“langosta” to the locals) and other fresh fare, the cuisine does not disappoint. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all available here.

The building where El Cayo is located serves as the entertainment hub for Vista Mare Samana. Families can enjoy playing pool, or perhaps Ping-Pong, while mom enjoys the spa located next door. The gym is in the vicinity, too, as is a mini-market for snacks and sundries, which seemed to have strange hours of operation.

Wireless Internet is not available in the rooms, but is free in the restaurant area; you’ll receive the password at check-in.
