Overview

An old-fashioned “Catskills-style” cottage resort of the kind that is getting harder and harder to find these days, Twin Lake Village offers a lakeside respite from the world of technology and civilization. Lodgings are basic, with walls of knotty pine wainscoting and a mix of antique furniture, including wooden dressers and wicker lounge and rocking chairs. The cottages are massive, with anywhere from four to six bedrooms, spacious kitchen and living room, and balconies overlooking the lake.

The resort provides three meals a day, so guests can focus on relaxing and enjoying themselves with a range of activities-including swimming in Lake Sunapee, playing golf, tennis or shuffleboard, fishing, hiking on nearby trails, or just reading or playing cards. During the day, younger kids can hang out in a supervised play area so parents and older kids can do their own adventures. In the evenings, the resort organizes activities including dances and bingo. Without television or Wi-Fi in the rooms, this is the kind of place that encourages conversation and interaction among guests, many of whom return year after year and eventually become fast friends.

Very relaxing and great for groups. just don't expect fancy

Is like stepping back in time. There is the main hotel and 18 houses that can each be rented. We were a group of 14 friends and was a great place to go and unwind and relax.

There are all sorts of activities available: shuffleboard, tennis. There is a beach and a boathouse. They supply kayaks and beach chairs and beach towels. There are trails and we hiked for a few miles was absolutely beautiful.

Can also sit on the large and very long veranda on the rocking chairs and contemplate the universe. There is no alcohol in the dining room so we had brought wines and appetizers and we had a pre-dinner gathering on the verranda.

The food is all well cooked but quite basic. However do not be fooled, the bread is home made, the syrup is local maple syrup and the service was all from eager kids who seemed to be in the summer after graduating high school.

This is not fancy. Our room in the hotel was adequate. It was quite hot but the overhead fan worked well and we had been advised and brought a floor fan as well. Next time we will know to take a kettle as coffee or tea is not available outside of mealtimes.

I stayed at Twin Lake Village for a week with friends. The place has an old-timey feel to it, and many of the guests are people who have been going there for years and even decades. Many of the lodgings are cottages, though we stayed in the annex, which is a kind of like a better version of a college; three bedrooms (each with a bathroom) with a shared common room that includes furniture, cabinet space and a mini-fridge. There are enough beds for six people, though I would recommend four people at most (six people might feel cramped in the annex). You get three meals daily in the dining hall, all-inclusive, and the food and service was very good (breakfast is generally the same each day, while the lunch and dinner menus change daily). There is a golf course (9 holes, I believe) and a lake that is great for swimming. You can take out canoes and kayaks from the dock. There are plenty of other amenities here and activities that are offered daily. More than anything, this was a quiet and relaxing place to stay, and I hope to return for future stays.

A couple other things to know in advance. This is a place to go if you want to get away from civilization. No TV's in the lodgings, and you can only get very limited wi-fi in the office. Also, be sure to set aside money for tips; you can include it as part of your payment at check-out. They post recommended amounts for the various staff members.
