Overview

Located in one of Oslo’s newest downtown hotspots, the island of Tjuvholmen, which was reclaimed from the water and now bustles with museums, galleries and restaurants, luxury design hotel The Thief opened in January 2013 with much acclaim. It’s a swanky address full of beautiful artwork (including a Warhol!) and high on the design factor (read: intuitive lighting in the rooms, high-end sound systems), but families appreciate the spacious rooms overlooking the fjord and the fact that a small and rocky, but lovely beach for summer swimming is just a few steps away. The entire area around the hotel is free of car traffic, for the most part, making it one of the nicer spots in Oslo for strolling or pedaling a bike (available for rent from the hotel). Restaurants, shops and a small grocery store are all within walking distance.

Great location, helpful staff, good bar, excellent restaurant. What you would expect from a 5-star hotel. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Highly recommend. Restaurants are within a short walk, as is a fantastic museum (next door).

My husband and I spent a total of four days at The Thief in Oslo. Staff at the front desk were polite, highly personable, and very knowledgeable (with the exception of the one staff member who told me that the ferry to the museums was still running, when it had essentially ended two days before our arrival for the season). Upon check out, front desk was able to print a document that I needed to review on my flight home.
Lots of beautiful artwork in the attractive lobby area.
Clean rooms, comfortable bed. Plenty of pillows.Could not seem to get the thermostat in the room to go below 20°C; this was slightly problematic for a woman just beginning her changes (LOL). We were unable to receive many of the television channels, and we were also unable to stream Netflix from our iPads. or the TV itself. Not a major problem, as we spent very little time in the room. However, with the time change and terrible insomnia, this would have been helpful.
BEST hotel hair dryer I've used in a LONG time. Nice big towels.
We did not realize that we had to lock the door to our room with our key card once we departed. We just happened to forget something in our room to find it unlocked when returning to it before the elevator arrived. It seems as though door remained unlocked; I may be wrong, but I think it may have locked after certain period on its own. However, no one informed us that we had to lock it, so I may be slightly misinformed about this. Waiting for the hotel to respond.
View from the room was fantastic, and a short walk from the beautiful harbor and Akershus fortress.
We diid dine at The Thief Foodbar; this will be reviewed separately.
