We booked this hotel for a November stay, after the crowds left. It was the perfect location from which to see Mt Rushmore and many, many more interesting sites in southwestern South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska. We went to see Mt Rushmore, but with such a great central location, we travelled all over the area to natural and man-made wonders. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was hot and filling. The pool and hot tub were welcome after a day of driving, hiking, and sightseeing. Custer has some cozy restaurants, many of them were closed for the season. If we ever went back, I would stay there again. The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. This is not a fancy place, but it had a homey feel that we appreciated.

Needing a place to stay while in the area, I choose the Super 8 in Custer for a night's stay on 10/24/2019. The front desk employee when I checked in was very pleasant and professional. After requesting a change to the second floor, I went to my room. The room was very clean, quiet, and what I expected. Due to it being so quiet, I was convinced that I would sleep well that night. I was completely wrong. The bed was hard as a board and squeaked every time I moved the least bit. The pillows weren't much better. I seriously thought about sleeping on the floor instead but was concerned about the carpet's cleanliness. I eventually fell asleep only to wake up with neck, back and arm pain about an hour later. The pattern of falling asleep and waking up due to pain repeated itself three more times despite taking ibuprofen after the second time I woke up. When I checked out, I told the woman at the front desk about my experience. She responded by merely asking what my room number was. I have to return to the area in approximagely one month and doubt that I'll stay at the Super 8 again.
