Planning to vacation with a large group and want a vacation rental in St. Croix? Consider Sugar Beach. The resort is, indeed, located on a beach with sugar-soft sand- though that’s not entirely the inspiration for its name. The resort is actually located on a former sugar plantation from the 1700’s, and a real sugar mill still stands on the property, right next to the pool.

Families have the option of staying in studio, one-, two-, three- or even four-bedroom units, the largest of them sleeping up to 12 people. Most units are individually owned, which means décor and furnishings vary from unit to unit. Most of them, however, guarantee private balconies, fully equipped kitchens and washers and dryers.

The resort is just 5 minutes from downtown Christiansted, one of just two cities (which are actually small towns) on the island. It’s easy to get to local restaurants, grocery stores and attractions on the island. The resort isn’t secluded, however, so if you’re looking for that “island feel,” you may want to consider other options.

The resort has a total of 46 condos, most of which are individually owned and uniquely furnished. They range from studio to four-bedroom units, with the largest condos sleeping a maximum of 12 guests. Each condo features a private balcony (porch furniture varies by unit), fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer; the studios don't have washers and dryers, however. Cribs and rollaway beds are available for $25 per day. Tip: Try to rent "Theater on the Beach" -- it's one of the best condos onsite!

Studio Suites
The studio suites are best for couples or a family of three, with one queen bed.

One-Bedroom Suites
This unit has a separate bedroom with a king bed. The living area may have a sleeper sofa, but this varies from room to room.

Two-Bedroom Suites
These rooms traditionally have one queen or king bed in one room, and two twin beds in the other bedroom.

Three-Bedroom Suites
These units not only have three separate bedrooms, but they also have three bathrooms -- perfect for several families.

Four-Bedroom Suites
The four-bedroom suite is the most popular option; be sure to book in plenty of advance.

Beach
The beach is located right outside of the condo buildings, and private vendors rent water sports equipment. You'll want to bring your own chairs and beach gear, however.

Pool
Located by the main office, the resort's swimming pool is a nice place to relax when it's time for a break from the beach. It is also located next to a sugar mill from the 1700's -- a unique photo op! It's open all day; there aren't any lifeguards on duty.

Tennis Courts
The hotel has three tennis courts, and equipment is provided.

Since most of the condos have fully equipped kitchens, you won't find any restaurants onsite. You can find plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in downtown Christiansted, just 5 minutes away. Restaurant menus are also available in the main office.

The Art of Smart Timing
Sugar Beach is busiest during the winter months, the most popular time to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you'd like to visit at a less busy time, we suggest the summer months or fall.

Getting There
The closest airport is Henry E. Rohlson Airport, and it is the only airport on the island. It is located about 20 minutes from Sugar Beach.

Getting Around
The resort is located on the beach, yet it's within easy driving distance of downtown Christiansted, where you'll find restaurants and some of the oldest buildings in St. Croix.

For Mom and Dad
Make a trip to Frederiksted, about 30 minutes away, for a tour of Cruzan Rum (and plenty of samples).
