The Strater Hotel is located smack dab in the middle of downtown Durango and only two blocks from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and depot.
Built in 1887, this is one of the West’s iconic hotels adorned with beautiful handcrafted woodwork, period wallpaper and the largest collection of American Victorian walnut antiques, which are used to decorate the hotel and guestrooms. This hotel has been operated for three generations by the Barker family.
For families, there is lots to do onsite. For dining, the Diamond Belle Saloon and Mahogany Grille are just a couple options. For entertainment, Henry Strater Theatre has a lively calendar of shows throughout the year including comedy, concerts, live theatre and more.
Room choices are all Victorian and extremely authentic. All guestrooms include air conditioning in season, cable TV, clock radio, flat-screen TV, individual bathrooms, sound machines and voice mail. Of the 93 unique guestrooms, the hotel has many bed configurations accommodating parties from one to six people.

Very historic, the way things were , checked in late as a walk-in. Front desk person nice and friendly. Single room clean and good to go. King size bed was fine. Heard the smoke alarm battery “cheep” at 1:30am. (But never again). No big deal. Will return.

I concur with many other reviews. very helpful staff, breakfast was good, live music on Sundays. Local crowd. Our room was cozy but elegant and clean. location was within walking distance to many venues, restaurants and stores.
