Overview

A good budget option when visiting Story Land theme park-or exploring the White Mountains around Mount Washington-Storybook Inn is a cut above the usual roadside motel. It offers a range of room sizes, including two double beds and two queens; connecting rooms are available for larger families. For those looking for a bit more quiet, more secluded units in a woody area back from the road also have outdoor patios for lounging.
Rooms are comfortably decorated with wall-to-wall carpet, microwave, and mini-fridge; however, they can also be somewhat musty and in need of some renovation. On the plus side, the motel has a ton of amenities to keep the kids busy, including three pools-one large outdoor pool, a smaller kiddie pool, and a heated indoor pool-and indoor hot tub. In addition, the property has a game room, tennis court, and playground. Story Land is so close you could literally walk there in 15 minutes, or drive there in three. In addition, there is a Dairy Queen across the street and several other family-friendly restaurants within walking distance.

This is probably the worst place we have ever stayed! The pools and hot tubs were filthy. The smoke detector was not working properly and last updated in 2005. When I enquired about the photos on line I was told the hotel had no control over them. I asked about coffee for the room and we were directed to a grocery store across the street.

The motel looks like it is located on the side of the road but our room was right back in the trees. From the room you can't hear any traffic noise, surrounded by lots of wildlife. The innkeeper was extremely helpful, she gave us so many wonderful recommendations and nothing was too much trouble. It was a great base to visit all of the attractions in the area.
