The location was convenient, so there's that

I think my displeasure in general isn't so much about this particular SpringHill Suites as the entire chain of SpringHill Suites. For some reason I always seem surprised at how awful the soundproofing is, how people talking or closing doors in the hallway just echo and seem to get louder, how you can often hear people in the next room having conversations...this has been true from Kentucky to Ohio to South Dakota to Texas...and others. Even the newest of these hotels just have horrible sound proofing and I need to stop staying at them.

At this particular one, the front desk staff was very nice. That was a plus. They gave me a great room at the end of the hall -- which would normally be great...except this one was next to the linens room for housekeeping. My first morning there I had no place to be until noon so I had hoped for a relaxing morning. The very exuberant housekeeper singing to her radio (not headphones, radio) outside my door was a bit much. Then the yelling down the hallway to coworkers after that. I guess I would caution folks against the low numbered rooms (mine was 402) if they want to sleep in.

The room was really starting to show some wear. It wasn't bad but it's clear that this hotel is going to be due for a little maintenance soon. The common areas were all very nice.

The property was great, but staff...not so much!

We stayed at this hotel while passing thru Sioux Falls. The woman who checked us in (name escapes me) was very nice. When we got to the room, the room was great EXCEPT for the pubic hair that was on the toilet (which did not belong to us). We remembered the next morning BEFORE WE CHECKED OUT that we had not told the woman upon check-in that we had AAA, which would have saved us about $40.00, so we told Corey (not sure of the spelling of her name as she wasn't wearing a name tag and I had to ask her twice what her name was) if she could apply our discount. Corey told us that there was no way to do this as they had already done their night audit (the previous night even though we'd not checked out yet). I asked her to get her manager; she called the manager and the manager wouldn't speak with us. So in the end, we were not able to use the discount. We wrote to Marriott about this especially since the next hotel that we stayed in (also a Marriott) if it was possible to apply a discount before checking out, but not at check-in, and they said that it was absolutely possible and they didn't know why SpringHill refused to do so. We're waiting to hear back from Marriott. Apparently these employees were just lazy and rude.
