South Bay has been the nicest hotel I have stayed at in a while. Incredible room service and friendly staff. Jantzen and shevaughn both were more than helpful in booking my room from my previous bad booking experience with another hotel. Will definitely be back to stay at South Bay sometime soon.
Family Activities
Water Park
Located on the hotel’s first floor, the water park includes two waterslides, a lazy river, a splash pad with water features, three hot tubs and a swimming pool. All but the swimming pool are covered; during cooler weather, the hotel encloses the entire pool deck so the swimming pool and water park are “indoors.” The lazy river and all hot tubs have a maximum depth of 3 feet, while the splash pad has a maximum depth of 1 foot. The swimming pool ranges in depth from 3 feet to 5 feet.
The pool deck contains many lounge chairs, but these can go fast when the hotel experiences high capacity. Towel service is provided, and bathrooms are located by the waterslides. No coolers or glass are permitted in the pool area. Water park/pool hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Beach
Just a short walk behind the hotel, there is plenty of beach to enjoy. Visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs and umbrellas with them. It’s important to note that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, no tents or other shading devices are allowed. They are permitted any time otherwise.
Game Room
On the lobby floor, a game room contains a Ping-Pong table, a pool table and a foosball table. All are free to use.
Kids' Activities
The hotel hosts a variety of kids' activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Some take place in the activity room located next to the game room, while others occur by the swimming pool. These include arts and crafts, games, and face painting, among others. A schedule of activities is posted in the elevators and at the activity room.
Note: This is not a drop-off kids' club; an adult is required to stay with children at all times.
Family Dining
Captain B’s
The hotel’s onsite restaurant, Captain B’s services a complimentary hot breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. daily. Menu items include fruit, cereals, breakfast breads, breakfast meats, eggs, breakfast potatoes and more.
The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The menu features appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees like grilled Atlantic salmon, fish and chips, and Angus beef sirloin. In addition, there is a happy hour each day from 4 to 7 p.m.
Parties of eight or more will see an 18-percent gratuity automatically added to their bill.
Take out, poolside and room service are available. Take-out orders incur a 10-percent service charge, while poolside and room service incur a 20-percent service charge. Poolside and room service require a $20 minimum order.

The Best Time to Visit
As a beach destination, the South Bay Inn & Suites is quite crowded during the summer months. Not surprisingly, this will also be the time with the highest rates. If planning a summer trip to this hotel, book early—at least 60 days ahead, if not more—for the best availability of room choices. For more availability and the best rates, plan to come during the hotel’s off-season, which kicks off after Labor Day and ends around Valentine’s Day. November through February offer the lowest rates. Check the hotel website for current specials and rates; also, the hotel sends out a periodic newsletter that includes sales information.
Getting There
If traveling by air, the closest airport is Myrtle Beach International Airport, which is just 3.8 miles away from the South Bay Inn & Suites. The hotel does not provide any shuttle service; a one-way ride-share is approximately $12. If traveling by car, Myrtle Beach is easily reached via U.S Highway 501 from the west and U.S Highway 17 from the north and south.
Getting Around
While guests may find many things to do near the hotel, the best way to get around Myrtle Beach is by car. If not arriving by car, visitors should get a rental car.
For Parents
If parents find themselves with an evening alone, head to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Be sure to ask for a balcony table so you can dine to the sounds of the rolling waves. Afterward, head outside for a walk along the beach or a stroll down the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
