Step back in time at this classic 1960s-era seashore motel. Tucked away at the end of a wooded road, the Silver Sands offers hotel rooms and one and two-bedroom cottages right on the shores of the Peconic Bay overlooking Shelter Island. Stroll along the boardwalk, play Frisbee on the beach, or simply while away a few hours by the shore—the Silver Sands is a great spot for an old-fashioned family beach getaway.
Guests will enjoy the motel’s vintage vibe with its wood paneling, funky carpeting, and neon sign, as well as the picturesque bay-front location, picnicking on the spacious lawns, and relaxing by the outdoor pool. Although there is no onsite dining, all of the hotel rooms feature a microwave and refrigerator while the cottages offer small kitchens.

Just returned from yet another long weekend this summer at Silver Sands...my home away from home...my peaceful place. Terry and Jean have treated me like family since I started coming here by chance during a snowstorm 17 years ago.
If you are looking for a simple, peaceful and relaxing break from the noise and stress, spend some time here enjoying this beautiful park like property with a delightful beach to swim or fish or kayak in the sparkling clean water.
There is a pool with a lifeguard and lots of room for kids to play, yet most times you hardly know anyone else is there.
I always stay in the motel room which is vintage retro and clean. BTW, I have stayed in many other places in the area over the years when traveling with friends who prefer more modern accommodations but I am never happy so now I stay here and they can stay wherever they choose (with several choosing to switch after enjoying a few hours here!)
I have met many wonderful people here over the years, somehow they manage to attract those who have a true appreciation for the simple pleasures of life.
My daughter and her husband love it too and I look forward to spending many summers here with family and friends.
Thank you Terry and Jean for providing this precious space!

Last year stayed at the Motel and loved it!
Asked about the cottages for this year - just returned from an awesome week!
So loved the cottages - wake up to soothing waves from the Peconic.
Option for beach or pool.
Rooms are spotless and loved our cottage.
Meant some awesome people as well.
Terry & Jean ( owners ) are wonderful.
Cannot wait to go back
