Awful Hotel, but Best you’ll get in the area

by pocketsize_traveler

This seems like the hotel tourist groups stay in when visiting Machu Picchu. I could see light through the doorframe and wall, it wasn’t sealed. There were small mosquito like flies on the bed and in the shower/sink. They don’t have water bottles like other brand hotels in Cusco. They use keys and you have to push the lock button before you close the door. You probably won’t find anything better in a poor non tourist city.

Good hotel side, BAD restaurant on site

Hotel itself is not bad in such a remote village with poor people’s houses outside. No central AC or heater but portable heater in the room is quite sufficient. Could be quite cold if you are in peak season for Machu Picchu in winter. Limited English speaking skills but they tried to help. Bellboy is very helpful and helped many people in our group with altitude sickness. Free oxygen at lobby but not available to each room.

We had dinner at hotel’s restaurant, El Naranjachallo - their included breakfast is good but dinner is of poor quality and alpaca and chicken are both tough to eat. How can they screw up cooking chicken? This could be the most basic hotel Gate 1 arranged for this trip (all claimed to be 4 stars).

Location: is good for visiting other beautiful places in Sacred valley but hotel itself is far from restaurants with good ratings.
