Traditional Taos feel for a pleasant experience

by tvlcard

We have stayed at Sagebrush for more than 30 years and they have added on rooms several times. Each room complex is a different, separate building location. Considering the age of the older buildings they are well kept. The grounds are generally pleasant but the night property lighting is poor. It has become kind of jumbled with all the buildings.
This trip we stayed for a 3 days for a small 70 person meeting. The conference facilities are outstanding. Comfortable viewing for lectures. Microphones, podium and raised speaker platform, good small dance floor. Service was excellent, they promptly brought in everything more that we requested, but it was well set up to begin with. Our attractive Southwest decor deluxe room had a cozy fireplace, some wood and a fire extinguisher. The room was spacious it had a large sitting area with 2 couches and 1 armchair. The TV did not swivel so it was not possible to view from the sitting area only from the comfortable king bed. There was a large "Murphy bed" in an attractive dark wood southwestern carved case with two handles that appeared easy to use. We did not use that bed. There was a dresser and a nice dark wood bench at the end of the king bed to use for luggage or watching TV. There was no full length mirror but a wall mirror to the side of the dresser beyond the TV. The view was to an empty field and distant barn. There were sheer curtains and blackout curtains. The closet was ample but the entire room was dim despite some canister ceiling lights. Worse yet several electrical outlet plugs including the ones on the 3 lamp bases did not work they were "loose" and would not hold most plugs. I charged my phone in the bathroom, my husband propped his phone up near the sofa so the charging cord would not fall out of the wall socket.
The bathroom was adequate with tub/shower and sink. The toilet did not flush well, we reported it to housekeeping and it was working for a short while yet the next day it did not flush again. There were quality amenities in individual tube containers. I liked the adjustable magnifying mirror. The timer control for a heating light turned and made noise but gave no heat. There was a small microwave on the counter in the separate sink area but did not work. Despite several tries the light came on, the timer counted down, it made noise but did not cook or warm anything. There was a small coffee maker and packet amenities but no tea. The wrapped packets had sugars, stirrers and napkin. Those packets were not replenished the next day.
The undercounter refrigerator had ice crystals in and outside the freezer compartment. The refrigerator froze our leftovers. I did turn it warmer when I noticed the problem. When I placed a bottle of water to chill, it did not freeze. I had difficulty connecting to the Wi-Fi, called the desk and she tried her mobile phone and said she tried hers and it was working. I brought my phone to the front desk and it didn't work there either. I finally did connect to the Wi-Fi after restarting the phone, but another sign in was requested every few hours. The excellent breakfast buffet or plated served breakfast is included for hotel guests. However, you still had to go to the breakfast bar area for silverware, juice, coffee. I noticed they will bring to those who need assistance. I think by plated they mean cooked to order. The choices included pancakes or French toast with eggs, meat, burrito etc. Plate looks attractive, has fruit garnish. Good selection at the breakfast bar included a pot of hot cereal, potatoes, cut fresh fruit, yogurt. The friendly staff kept it very clean promptly cleared dishes. Despite the few problems noted we had a pleasant time.

Good Value

I don’t know why there are so many unfavorable reviews in October, but my spouse and I had a very nice experience and stay at the Sagebrush Inn and Suites in early November. We booked in advance, our reservation and price honored at check in, and the receptionist polite, professional and helpful. We stayed in a studio room in one of the newer buildings which was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The decor was a bit dated but as I’ve said, the room was clean and suitable for an overnight stay, and for the price, a very good value. We had a drink in the bar in the older original inn, and the service was outstanding. Nate, our waiter, was friendly, helpful and attentive. The lobby area and bar had a rustic, old western vibe which was inviting, cozy and charming. If you’re looking for a good value in a quiet part of town the Sagebrush Inn and Suites is a good choice!
