We are at the airport right now writing this to WARN fellow travellers BEFORE they book. I know this hotel is less than 9 months old and these places need some time to get into the rythm but some of these issues are systemic. Our shower leaked into the wall making our room smell like mold. There was visible black mold that grew significantly during stay. Despite being obvious to the cleaning staff, nothing was done. Last night I could barely sleep. I have no doubt that the mold spores have reached the A/C system now. Everything in the room is permanently damp and smells of mold. Even my luggage.
We paid extra for diamond club as we liked the idea of the in room and beach butler service. This was a highlight of our trip. The majority of our requests were met without hassle.
The alcohol service on the other hand was horrendous. We were supposed to recieve top shelf liquor but even after requesting specific top shelf alcohol, the bartenders would sneak the cheap stuff in our drinks. When I say cheap stuff, I mean CHEAP STUFF. Maybe 5% of my drinks were made properly ... and I'm a decent tipper!
The food was decent despite ALL three of us had montezumas revenge for 24 straight hours! (Definately food or water related)
The tap/shower water had a nasty odor to it and at one point the water was BROWN. Halfway through our trip I refused to shower. I expect these issues from a struggling hotel in Cuba, NOT a Royalton. We loved the Riviera Royalton when it was less than a year old, so we thought this would have the same management.
THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO BE CLOSED until the issues are remedied. Especially the water and food! A large portion of guests had the exact same symptoms. This is a public health issue. NOTHING SHOULD BE MORE IMPORTANT!

Being a huge fan of the Royalton brand, I set my sights on their newer Royalton Suites Cancun all-inclusive luxury resort with an already infamous rooftop infinity pool as well as raved about spa centered around Mayan traditions and services to match. Both were incredible (either go early or later in day to take advantage of the awesome bed loungers and rooftop pool on 16th floor and be sure to ask for Marcela at the spa - BEST massage of my life!) I was taking this trip BY MYSELF and just needed a few days to relax, sleep, and reacquaint myself with what being pampered felt like. I first fell in love with this brand while vacationing in the Caribbean last year, and the minute I stepped out from my shuttle and into paradise I realized the Royalton Suites Cancun luxurious amenities, over-the-top high-end finishes, and PRIVATE BUTLER that comes with the Diamond Club (wellllll worth the upgrade and highly recommend!) were exactly what dream vacations were made of. I typically spend a good bit off a resort in the locale (Lorenzillo's restaurant and shopping all steps from resort) but was having such a wonderful time I stayed on the property ALL 3 days!
