Royal Malewane was the first property in The Royal Portfolio, a collection of award-winning lodges and resorts across South Africa. Originally the owners’ family home in the African bush, Royale Malewane was designed and decorated by owner Liz Biden, an avid art enthusiast and interior designer. The safari lodge sits on private land in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park and offers modern luxury with the beauty and essence of a bygone time.
The property is composed of six Luxury Suites, two Royal Suites (which each have two bedrooms) and Africa House–an exclusive use villa with six bedrooms. Each of the Luxury and Royal Suites has a four-poster bed, living area, huge bathroom with a Victorian freestanding bath and rain shower, outdoor shower, private plunge pool and a vast deck. All meals, soft drinks, spirits and wines are included, plus Bush Dinners and sundowners. The Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa offers many treatments, including the hot and cold sunken baths and a couples massage room.
In May 2018, the lodge underwent a renovation to its public spaces, including the creation of a new Masiya Bar, a contemporary gin and whisky bush bar where guests can relax around a fire.

Just wanted to thank all the management and staff at Royal Malewane. We have stayed at many top hotels around the world and this is right up there. We had high expectations and these were surpassed with the attention to detail. The atmosphere. The professionalism of the staff. The food quality. Also the safari experience was out of this world. Our guide Jonathan and tracker Jonas really are at the top of their game. We saw the big 5 in nearly one driving session! Each day became better and better . Honestly guys, keep up the great work. You have a special place on your hands x

My husband and i visited in July, and from the moment we were picked up in a luxury vehicle at the airport, to the staff greeting and orientation upon arrival, we knew we had literally found a new home. I felt like I was a Princess on Fantasy Island!! There are 11 suites, some of them quite large to accomodate families, but there was never a feeling of being crowded. We stayed in #6 luxury suite for 5 days and the elephants walk by and frequently drink out of your private pool. The rooms are very spacious, with a most comfy bed, sitting area, fireplace, and huge separate bathroom. All look out through floor to ceiling windows to the outdoors. Laundry included!! The lodge and dining areas are open to the air, and are built at the edge of a pond, where animals of all varieties come on a regular basis. Quite fascinating For lunch and dinner you get your own personal menu, with many native dishes that are so good. Believe it or not, they serve the best french fries i have ever had! Our GM, Dani, has got to be one of the most genuine, nicest people you will ever meet. He sent us off every morning with hot coffee for AM safari, and when we returned after the PM safari, the fireplace was roaring and the bar open. Andrew was always on hand to address any needs, and just the chatting with staff and other travelers was so interesting. Our guide was Ranger Andre, and Tracker Lucas, who is the Master Jedi of trackers (born and raised in the area). Lucas made sure we had hot water bottles and blankets to warm our seats on the chilly mornings. We saw all the "Big 5" animals, and so many others. They really know the animals well, and we were well educated. Our comfy vehicles are like armored tanks that will travel off road to carefully track.
There is a large gym, pool, hot tub, and Spa.
We cannot say enough about this 5 star Platinum resort, and although it may be the once in a lifetime safari experience, I would come back in a heartbeat, and actually felt very sad when we had to leave.
Take the opportunity to choose the top of the line......and do make it your last stop in Africa, as you will be so spoiled nothing else will compare!
