We just needed an over night stay before a running event in the area, building is lovely, lots of character, check in was easy with a friendly welcome, as said in other reviews the accommodation part is a bit tired looking and could do with updating, it looks a bit worn out but the room was clean and warm, bed was comfortable and was just right for what we needed, evening meal in the restaurant was great, really nice food good portions and quick service, can't comment on breakfast as we had to check out early, I did think they seemed a little under staffed , the poor guy who greeted us at reception was also working the bar, taking food orders and bringing the food out as well as making sure customers were happy with only one other member of staff with him ... still friendly service despite them being busy. The only reason for the 4 and not 5 stars is just down to the tired looking accommodation, can't fault anything else .

My partner and I have been staying at this hotel for a number of years. We told the staff that he is celiac and vegetarian. Breakfast took 55 minutes to get to us, with no options for a vegeterian. The gluten free choices at breakfast consisted of bread, which when served to us was put on top of the regular bread. We ended up taking his own food into the hotel. During the two nights we were there the staff despite being told over and over again managed to feed him gluten at every meal. He was ill for about four days after that. When we checked out we were given a £34 discount and that was it. We have been in touch with Greene King regarding this issue and they have advised that they will get back to us as its very serious. They called me and when I called back I was told the man was on leave. I sent a text message to the person dealing with this and was told they are looking into it. No word from them as yet. If you have any food allergy of any description, this is not the hotel to stay at. Its a shame really because we never had this problem before. The last two visits have been a nightmare. We will not be returning to this hotel or any other Greene King hotels.
