We have been coming to this hotel for years. If you are looking for luxury or lots of bells and whistles, this isn’t your place. But what it does have is friendly staff, consistently clean rooms, and a unique character that really endears the place.
The hotel is small and all rooms have doors directly on the parking lot. But, one of the really neat features of this hotel, most of the rooms have both and standard hotel room door, and a heavy slatted screen door. Because it’s generally a quiet place, you can leave your main door open and enjoy some fresh air in the room without sacrificing privacy.
The rooms are massive, but dated. The bathrooms are small and the features haven’t been updated in probably something around 30+ years. But, with that being said, the rooms are consistently clean and well kept. Sure there are signs of wear and tear, but it’s minimal and it really doesn’t look like it comes from neglect. In fact this motel has a time capsule quality to it. The one complaint we have is that the mattresses have seen much better days. It’s okay for a night, but they are in need of a change.
The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. We have checked in at all hours of the evening and have never had a problem. The lobby is equally charming with its original wood framed windows and its big fireplace. There is even a clear place behind the desk where there used to be key boxes for each room.
The last great feature of this motel is it’s location. It’s only 10 minutes away from Busch Gardens, it’s just off the eastern corner of Colonial Williamsburg, and, best of all, is sits directly next to the best breakfast place in town, Colonial Pancake House. Make sure to pick up a coupon for 10% off in the motel lobby. And don’t worry if there is a wait, it moves fast and it’s worth it.

I was prepared to give this hotel three stars until an incident on our second day. The hoteli is older and lots of updates would help. We had a lot of connectivity problems with devices because of that. The breakfast was substandard even by choice standards. The one good thing is that it is within walking distance to colonial williamsburg if you are going. Housekeeping was mainly making the bed and emptying trash. They did not do any cleaning in the bathroom. The reason for the one star is that we returned to the hotel and found someone had left ouyr door wide open. This hotel has doors open to the street and our room was on street level so anyone could have walked in. We had expected better security!
