Overview
by Amanda Geronikos
The Ridge at Playa Grande Luxury Villas isn’t an all-inclusive resort, though it certainly feels like one. Rates at this beautiful resort in Cabo San Lucas include breakfast and access to a kids’ club, multiple pools, fitness center, restaurants, spa, and organized activities, plus luxurious villas with fully equipped kitchens and private balconies.
The hotel is located on the beach, though you can’t actually go to the beach (unless you’re walking or fishing) — the waves are dangerously strong and the water is quite deep. Instead, you can head to nearby (and very famous) Lovers Beach.
The resort is also within easy walking distance of downtown Cabo San Lucas, and features amazing views of the city, especially at night. If you visit between December and March, we highly recommend a whale-watching tour via Cabo Adventures — the marina is also within steps of the hotel — for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Bring your camera!
The Ridge at Playa Grande Luxury Villas is part of Solmar Hotels & Resorts, which also operates the Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa next door.

25 minute check in. On checkout I had a charge for a hotel drop off. Well, there I was at the desk so probably wasn’t me. After me waiting for a while with zero explanation I finally left. They never fixed the charge. I had it reversed through my cc company. Pool is disgusting. Rooms are okay.

Amazing Service by all. I have been coming every year for over ten years. Most of the staff are like family. Chuy always greats us at the front door with Welcome Home! Anything you need just ask. The wait staff at the Ridge pool is amazing I always enjoy Blanka, Elizabeth and Cirillo as well as the others. The ridge manager Paolo and Angel were there to help us out when we had an issue with another guest. I like to get out of the resort now and then but you could easily stay in the resort your whole visit and have a wonderful time. We had young grandchildren and their parents with us and they had a great time.
Family Activities
Beach
While you can't go to the beach (as is the case at all resorts in Los Cabos), you can catch a shuttle to nearby Lovers Beach for sunbathing, swimming and obligatory photos of the iconic Arch of Cabo.
Pools
The hotel has several pools, all of which are heated. All pools welcome families except one adults-only pool.
Kids' Club
The hotel's kids' club welcomes children ages 4 to 12 with arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, storytelling and more. Hours and programs vary depending on hotel occupancy.
Family Dining
Brigantine
Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Brigantine serves local specialties -- including fresh fish and juicy steaks -- in an extensive buffet setting. Be sure to try the Molcajete! Oceanfront vistas with al fresco seating complete the experience.
Sushi Sun
Sushi Sun serves fresh sushi rolls for dinner, with both indoor and outdoor seating available.
Puerto San Lucas
Puerto San Lucas is an upscale bistro with a casual ambience (casual dress code, too). The restaurant specializes in steaks and seafood, but perhaps its best feature is the incredible views of downtown Cabo San Lucas. It is open from 4 to 11 p.m. nightly.
Calima Restaurant
Calima Restaurant is located by the pool, and serves classic fare (think salads and sandwiches) in a casual setting.
Planning & Tips
All About the Extras
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is complimentary to all guests.
Fitness Center
The hotel has a complimentary fitness center with everything you need to work off those extra calories, from cardio equipment to personal training sessions (fee).
Gift Shop
Whether you forgot toothpaste or are just looking for a keepsake souvenir to take home, you'll find what you need at a small gift shop onsite, located off the lobby.
Solmar Foundation
All guests are encouraged to donate just $10 to the Solmar Foundation upon leaving the resort. We highly recommend a donation, as the funds help those in need with food, shelter, medical services and assistance in finding jobs.
The Art of Smart Timing
The best time to visit this hotel and Los Cabos as a whole is the winter, though the weather can be chillier than you'd expect (60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit). You will likely find deals in the summer and fall, but be aware this is hurricane season and Los Cabos has been affected in recent years.
Getting There
The island's major airport is Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). It is about 45 minutes from the resort, so you'll need to rent a car or get a taxi (we recommend Cabo Seasons).
Getting Around
The Ridge is just steps from downtown Cabo San Lucas, where you'll find restaurants and shopping. It's also within steps of Cabo Adventures at the Marina Cabo San Lucas. Cabo Adventures provides whale-watching tours -- the best time for sightings is December through March -- along with other boating tours and dolphin encounters.
For Mom and Dad
Head to the Playa Grand Spa for a relaxing treatment while your kids play in the children's club, or upgrade your experience with a visit to the seaside spa cabanas at Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa next door. Afterward, enjoy a quiet walk on the beach, followed by a cocktail at the lobby bar.
