Behind the Athenaeum Hotel in the Mayfair neighborhood of Shepherd Market are small narrow streets packed with bistros, pubs, and popular Turkish and Lebanese restaurants. Sofra features some of my favorite Turkish staples like a Mediterranean salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, olives, and feta, tender falafel, creamy hummus, and an entree of lamb tangine, placed on a bed of nuts, fruit, and rice. House special meat is Sofra’s version of iskender kebab, topped with yoghurt and tomato sauce on a bed of pita bread. Save room for the desserts of apple cinnamon tarts, baklava, and rice pudding.
