Gus’ is a Memphis institution whose fans are amazingly loyal. They serve up some of the best crispy fried chicken in town, and although the coating has a hint of spice, it won’™t set off any fire alarms. Meals are cooked to order, so the food is fresh. Sides include coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, and fries, and you can also order fried pickles and fried-green tomatoes (served with ranch dressing for dipping). Gus’™ is strictly a paper-plate-and-plastic-cup kind of joint and it can get crowded, so be sure to come early or you may end up waiting for a table. The location given here is in downtown, but there’s a second location in midtown, as well. Open for lunch and dinner only.
