Edelweiss Cafe in Georgetown is a Swiss themed cafe with classic dishes such as bratwurst, German curry pork sausage, roesti with bacon and eggs, cheese fondue and a selection of desserts, as well as a good choice of local dishes. To drink, they serve coffees, teas, soda, milkshakes, European beer and international cocktails.
The building itself is over 150 years old. It is situated in old Chinatown, which means the nearby buildings are largely temples and clan houses. The furniture and decor inside the establishment harkens back to 1940’s Germany for a nostalgic feel.
The owner, Teresa, spent 20 years in Penang as a tour guide and she is more than happy to give families hints and tips about their adventure in Malaysia. She still runs walking tours and tours around the old town, which can be booked at the restaurant. There is also a small ‘museum’ at the restaurant.
