Gem Alert! Dubbed a “dessert destination” by the Washington Post and visited by President Obama, the independently owned Dairy Godmother serves frozen custard with incredible “mouthfeel” — a regional favorite of those in Wisconsin, don’t ya know? The owner of Dairy Godmother keeps it very old-school by preparing three flavors the Wisconsonites would expect to see: vanilla, chocolate and a Flavor of the Day which could be Breakfast In Bed (maple custard with waffle cone pieces and bacon bits for Mother’s Day) or Snickerdoodle Dandy (house-made snickerdoodles in cinnamon and nutmeg custard for Fourth of July).
The owner, a trained pastry chef, is bursting at the seams with house-made cobblers, crisps, parfaits, rootbeer floats, marshmallows (winter only) and popsicles (summer only). Off-the-beaten-path, in the quaint region known as Del Ray (plenty of independently owned hip browsing), the Dairy Godmother is an easy 10-minute drive from the Old Town Hub and very visit-worthy.
