Most kids start smiling as soon as they cross the threshold to this downtown ice-cream palace; others have been known to pass out from sheer sensory overload. Along one wall are rows and rows of fudge in dozens of flavor (including the aptly named “Death by Chocolate”), along the other stands the ice cream counter, with more than 50 flavors all made from scratch on the premises. Some of the more famous flavors include, in season, Ben & Bill’s vaunted lobster ice cream, along with dozens more flavors of gelato, frozen yogurt sherbet and sorbet. It’s enough to make you forget all about that other Ben & what’s-his-name.
