I highly recommend a girls' weekend with your teenager. It's a great way to bond since the setting is neutral and you're discovering new things together. This weekend, my daughter and I stayed at the historic Pitcher Inn located in Warren, Vermont. Our weekend was relaxing, wonderful and the perfect way to reconnect. PLAN YOUR PITCHER INN GETAWAY
This Relais & Chateau property is all about going back in time. The Pitcher Inn started in the Civil War era as a lodging house. The Smith family (they are the big investors in the Sugarbush Resort) purchased the property in the 90's. They had big plans for the inn and in 1997, started a huge renovation. Now it's a full-service inn with luxury touches and strong ties to the past.

Each room is designed with a theme. For our stay we got the Chester A. Arthur room. Our room had a huge fireplace, a large queen bed and a spacious deck. It was also appointed with bathroom facilities for the disabled.

The design touches included a reproduction Tiffany lamp and a portrait of the Vermont-born president. The room had a ton of character and the inn provided a history of his deeds - a great way to learn about our American presidents. Did you know, Arthur was the only president that never ran for president?

One thing that did disappoint me was the overall attention to seasonality. Most inns, hotels and shops have glorious fall displays with flowers and gourds and the like. The Pitcher Inn seemed to be pinching pennies on displays of this type.

Momtrends Tip: Definitely request the inn staff build you a fire. The experts had a roaring blaze going in no time at all.

The bedrooms aren't the only rooms to hang out in. There's also a library and a lounge near check in. These are nooks where you can dive into a book and enjoy a cup of tea.

FOOD AT THE PITCHER INN
Unlike the B&B's that proliferate Vermont, this inn has a full service restaurant. There are some great nearby restaurants in Waitsfield, but make sure you get at least one dinner in the main dining room at the Pitcher Inn, it's one of the things that make this place so special. We loved the freshly made pasta and the crisp green salads. Be sure to score a table near the enormous hearth. At night this room is charming and definitely can be romantic. In the morning, the room is bright and airy and a perfect spot to start the day with a hearty breakfast.

This luxury offering from Relais and Chateau is perfection. Relaxed environment, simple but stunning gardens and beautifully appointed rooms, professional staff, dining that I was happy to throw the diet out the window for.
We felt as though we were staying with friends, visit to the cellar, vaguely competitive pool table banter with other patrons had us with game face on (2:3 if anyone’s wondering) tho they convincingly beat us at every effort on the shuffle board.
Warren village is picture perfect.
In summary, worth the indulgence.

Only negative for me was that as a sufferer of asthma and hayfever, I struggled with my bionic sense of smell being adversely affected by the bedroom fireplace. Notwithstanding it was clean and empty, the ash and smoke smell had me in its grip.

Perhaps not the venue for asthmatics.
