We arrived on a Friday at around 4pm for a wedding block stay at the Houston Omni. The valet service was great. The lobby, as I walked in, was bright, spacious, and modern. And that's where the nice parts of my visit end. As far as I know check-in is at 3pm, so I expected that by arriving at 4 my room would be ready. Not so. The front desk clerk said my room needed to be inspected, which would take 15 minutes, and she would text me when it was ready. After 30 minutes and no text, I went to check, and she told me that my room had been ready for several minutes. I signed up for Omni Select Guest before making my reservation, but this was not acknowledged in the slightest, and no water bottles were offered when we got the room keys, a service that even Hampton Inns provide. We went upstairs, and things did not improve. The hallways were extremely dated. Wood paneling from the 80s, ancient carpet, and trash/sheets outside every room, including mine. As we went in our room, we turned on the AC, which produced a loud knocking sound instead of cool air. I went down to the front desk to ask for a room change, and was told that as I was in the wedding block she could only put me on floors 2,3, or 4, and that she had no vacancies, but she would get someone to fix the AC. I spoke to three other couples staying at the same hotel wedding block, who were on floors 7,8, and 10. I don't appreciate being lied to like that. The AC was repaired that evening, so that part was good. The room itself was old and dated, with cobwebs in the corners. I'm really not sure how the room passed 'inspection' with a broken AC and being mildly unclean. The shower had terrible water pressure, and no light in the shower itself so it was very dim. The marble around the sink was cracked. When we checked out on Sunday, the same front desk clerk didn't even bother to ask me how my stay was. Lastly, we had brunch with the wedding group, and the quality of the food was OK at best. The bagels were stale, the toaster didn't really toast, and the waffles were chewy and cool instead of crispy and hot. The coffee was excellent, as was the table service, so points for that.

We have stayed at many Omni Hotels across the country. And as usual we loved our Omni experience.
After making the reservation we get an email from Loyalty ambassador Joseph Miller.
He asked us for any special request before our arrival. I mentioned that we were taking the trip to celebrate my wifes 1 year of being cancer free. Upon arrival he had a wonderful amenity of a meat and cheese tray and a bottle of wine. Nice touch.
Even though the hotel was hosting 3 weddings Joseph was always quick to answer when we had more questions about the hotel. etc To make sure we could always reach him he gave us his cell phone number.
We ate at the restaurant 'Birdie's'. (Joseph's recommendation) Wonderful late evening dinner and Sunday brunch.
Every employee we came in contact with was pleasant and helpful; Front desk, door men, restaurant, housekeeping etc.
There was one exception, the bar. Without going into detail after my first encounter upon arrival I chose NOT to patronize for the rest of the stay. My experience with 2 of the employees was opposite of the earlier descriptions.
Overall great experience.
