For something a little different, try the Old Town B&B in downtown Homer. It’s located above the Bunnell Street Arts Center, a historic building that also houses an art gallery and artist workshops. There are three old-fashioned rooms available. Ideal for a small family is Arthur’s Suite, which includes queen and twin beds, plus a private bathroom outfitted with antique fixtures. Alaskan quilts cover the beds and contemporary local art adorns the walls. It’s a charming and cozy room in a great location near the water. Breakfast is in the form of a voucher for the excellent Maura’s Cafe next door.
The Old Town B&B is in a great location just a block from Bishop’s Beach. A nature trail leads a short way to the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, where kids can earn their Junior Biologist badge by learning about marine life. A few blocks up the hill is the Pratt Museum, which has fun hands-on exhibits and displays dedicated to the history of the area around Homer. In the neighborhood around the B&B are several fine seafood restaurants. But you do not want to pass up the Two Sisters Bakery down the street. This is a very popular eatery, specializing in creative baked goods, organic coffee and healthy soups and sandwiches. Call ahead for a reservation if you want sit-down service. From your B&B, it’s 10-minute drive to the harbor to catch a fishing charter or sightseeing cruise. With its historic charm and awesome neighborhood, the Old Town B&B might be one of the best memories of your family vacation to Alaska.

Charming rickety steps, fine room, clean. Erin, who ran the extablishment, was delightful. The room included a voucher for the restaurant below. The location was fine with other interesting places within walking distance.
