Sir Richard Branson’s empire includes Virgin Records, Virgin Air and now, for the first time, Virgin Hotels. This week marked the opening of the first Virgin Hotels properties in the heart of Chicago.
The new hotel concept aims for a hip, young vibe with a style more akin to a city apartment versus a traditional hotel room. Virgin Hotels Chicago’s rooms are two separate rooms divided by a sliding door, with a “Sleeping Lounge” and a “Dressing Room.” The 250-room hotel includes one-bedroom suites, enlarging the living and sleeping space with a sofa. Rooms are outfitted with a king bed or two full beds, double vanity sinks, apartment-style closets and makeup tables and small refrigerators stocked with items at convenience store prices. Wi-Fi is complimentary, and pets are welcome at the hotel, which will provide dog beds for furry friends. On-site dining is also available.
Virgin Hotels Chicago is located in the landmark former Dearborn Bank Building in Chicago’s Loop district. The next property will open in New York City, with 300 rooms.
