The popular beach destination of St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida, on the Gulf Coast, is beginning a hotel boom by welcoming a number of new hotel properties through 2015.
Opal Sand Resort, located on Clearwater Beach, will be a 15-story, 230-room sister property to the Sand Pearl Resort. The hotel is expected to open in the fall of 2015 with a beachside restaurant, zero-entry pool, full-service spa, and a fitness center.
Marquesas, being developed by the same group opening the Opal Sands, is also planning to open a two-tower hotel and condo property. One tower will host 208 hotel rooms, while the second will offer 74 condo units.
The Clearwater Beach Guesthouse, also opening in Clearwater, is another smaller property opening in 2015. The 10-story hotel will feature 155 rooms.
Also approved by city officials to eventually build in the coming years are a 345-room Wyndham, a 90-room Courtyard by Marriott, a 171-room Hampton Inn & Suites, and a 202-room boutique property called The Views.
The projects follow the opening of Hotel Zamora in June, which was the first hotel to open on St. Pete Beach in decades.
