Spirit Airlines will raise checked baggage fees by $2 for holiday travel. The surcharge — called “The Temporary Holiday Bag Price” — applies to all flights booked after Aug. 19, 2014 and scheduled Dec. 18 to Jan. 5, 2015.
“To make sure we have room for everyone’s bags, we’re encouraging customers to pack a bit lighter,” the Spirit Airlines website reads. “Spend less time packing and more time laughing with family and friends this holiday season.”
The change does not apply to members of Fare Club, but all other flyers can expect to pay $2 on top of the following rates (during online bookings and prior to online check-in — standard rates go up after that):
Carry-On Bag: $35
First Checked Bag: $30
Second Checked Bag: $40
Third, Fourth or Fifth Bag: $85
