The quaint town of Salzburg at the base of the Alps in Austria, is ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic film, “The Sound of Music.” The story of a family from Salzburg who escaped during World War II is an American favorite, filled with a number of memorable scenes and songs. To celebrate, Salzburg is offering a host of special events:
Fraeulein Maria Bike Tour. Just as Fraeulein Maria took the kids on a musical bike ride through the gorgeous town of Salzburg, this special tour will take riders to places bus tours cannot visit. The 3.5-hour tour is available for all ages from May through September. Tours depart daily at 9:30 a.m., with a later tour available at 4:30 p.m. from June through August. The costs are 30 Euro for adults, 18 Euro for children 13 to 18, and 12 Euro for children 12 and younger.
The Sound of Music Tour. This bus tour takes guests on a 4-hour journey across Salzburg and the beautiful Lake District. Visitors will spot scenes from the movie, including Mirabell Gardens, Leopoldskron Palace, Nonnberg Abbey and the Mondsee Wedding Chapel, among others. Tours depart at 9:15 a.m. and 2 p.m., with prices beginning at 40 Euro per person.
The Sound of Music. The Sound of Music is brought to life in this musical at the State Theater Salzburg. The musical is running through May 2015.
Salzburg offers a number of sightseeing tours and programs, including more that showcase the Julie Andrews’ film.
