Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced it will open a new hotel along Philadelphia’s prestigious Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The new hotel will take over the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas, transforming the 247,000-square-foot historic space into a nearly 200-room hotel at a price tag of $85 million. The building is listed on Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, and Kimpton will work to preserve the structure and its interior murals.
This will be Kimpton’s third property to open in Philadelphia, following the Hotel Palomar in Rittenhouse Square and Hotel Monaco near Independence Hall. The hotel will be within walking distance of Philadelphia’s museums, including the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Anticipated to open by 2017, the hotel will feature a restaurant and bar, spa and fitness center and meeting space.
