The new movie “Paddington” is a hit among kids, and so, too, was the Paddington Trail in London. The trail featured celebrity-designed Paddington Bear statues, located around the city. The first 15 bears were auctioned off, including London Mayor Boris Johnson’s “Bear of London,” raising more than $1.4 million for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
The UK society provides 24-hour advice and support to children through ChildLine. A gala auction raised more than $757,000, while an online auction raised $486,000.
The most popular bears visited were the Mayor’s bear, David Beckham’s “Golden Paws,” and Benedict Cumberbatch’s “Sherlock Bear.”
