New York City has a new Family Ambassador: Curious George. In a year-long partnership with PBS Kids, the city’s tourism board has launched a campaign to encourage family travel to the Big Apple.

“With the help of the Official NYC Family Ambassador, Curious George, we are pleased to welcome even more families to discover the endless urban activities in New York City’s five boroughs,” says Fred Dixon, President and CEO of NYC & Company. “Curious George is a beloved and amiable character known for his adventures, and we look forward to working with him to encourage family travelers to have an enriched vacation experience in New York City.”

The initiative includes activity sheets at 16 museums and outdoor venues, such as the New York Botanical Garden, New York Transit Museum, Staten Island Children’s Museum and New-York Historical Society, where “Madeline in New York: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans” is on display through Oct. 19.

Other campaign features, found at NYCGo.com, include guides with tips for local beaches, zoos, aquariums and parks. Scavenger hunts are part of the fun, too.

Curious George is the sixth ambassador for New York City; similar, past campaigns have included The Muppets, Dora the Explorer and Sesame Street.
