Construction for Grand Texas, a sports and entertainment district in New Caney, near Houston, is expected to begin later this summer. The locality will feature a theme park; water park; adventure park, complete with zip lines and ropes courses; sports complex; museum; and an “agritainment” area with equestrian trails, pony rides, a petting zoo and more. It will also offer an RV park with 144 lots and more than 240 hotel rooms, plus 450,000 square feet of dining and retail space, providing the means for an ultimate family vacation.
“We want what we refer to as ‘the district’ [to be] a destination and as a destination, that means it’s going to drive development,” says Monty Galland, CEO of the Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District. “We have a lot to offer that you just won’t find any place else.”
Shuttle services are planned for the coming years, too, as is a yet-to-be-announced attraction on the former site of AstroWorld, which closed in 2005.
Grand Texas is expected to open in mid-2015; the first phase of the theme park will debut in 2016.
