Playing off of its location in the former home to the former Portland Press Herald newspaper, the Autograph Collection of hotels has just opened the Press Hotel in Portland, Maine.
The new 110-room hotel is styled after a 1920s journalist’s office with classic reporter writing desk and playful newsroom references, including scripted author quotes in closest and on the backs of chairs. The hotel showcases local author, painters, textile makers and wood-workers celebrating the building’s history, including a letterpress art wall sculpture and a vintage typewriter installation.
The hotel is working with local art and literary institutions, such as Maine College of Art, the Portland Public Library, the Telling Room and the Salt Institute for exclusive access to unique entertainment, art programs, workshops and on-site lecture series.
