Disney announced some exciting new additions coming to its collection at the D23 Expo.
New Disney Cruise Ship
Disney Cruise Line announced yesterday it’s adding a seventh ship to its collection, while will be in addition to two other ships that are already in progress, set to debut in 2022. This latest addition will weigh approximately 135,000 tons, and will be constructed at the same shipyard as the first two announced vessels. All three will be fueled by clean-burning, liquefied natural gas; feature about 1,250 cabins; and house 2,500 passengers — making these ships slightly larger than Disney Dream (2011) and Disney Fantasy (2012). The names, design plans, and itineraries are still in the works.
Star Wars-Themed Hotel
A Star Wars-themed hotel will be joining the collection of Walt Disney World hotels in the future (opening will be announced at a later date). Guests can expect a one-of-a-kind experience at this luxury resort in a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
This Star Wars-themed land will be opening its doors in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, following the opening of the land at Disneyland in California. Guests can expect to meet a plethora of their favorite characters, including BB-8, Chewbacca, Rex, and Kylo Ren.
New Rides
Located inside the Chinese Theatre at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will take guests on a storytelling adventure through the world of Mickey Mouse via a dimensional display. This new attraction will replace The Great Movie Ride, which closes on August 13 of this year. The opening date of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be announced at a later date.
Located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, a “Tron”-themed attraction will be making its debut at a later date.
Located within World Showcase in the France pavilion at Epcot, a “Ratatouille”-inspired attraction will bring guests on a chase through a kitchen boasting the sights, sounds, and smells of Gusteau’s Parisian restaurant. Designed after the top family attraction at Disneyland Paris, this new attraction is set to open by the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021.
