A financial website has released its analysis of the top summer travel destinations in the United States for the budget conscious, and the winner is Las Vegas.
Analysts at WalletHub compared 80 of the largest metro areas in the country using 30 metrics such as cost of the cheapest flight to the number of attractions and found Las Vegas to be the best bang for the buck for Americans looking to get away this summer. Salt Lake City, Orlando, Los Angeles and Atlanta rounded out the top five.
WalletHub’s review found the Las Vegas to be the most attractive destination on the West Coast, and New York City the most attractive for the east coast. Salt Lake City was found to have the most diversity of attractions, while California, South Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma are home to the top summer destinations in the U.S. Despite its lead with New York City, New York State, along with Connecticut, made the cut as the most unpopular summer destinations.
Analysts also found the lowest priced three-star hotel was $31 in Charleston, S.C., while Cleveland, Ohio, had the highest metro area three-star hotel at $184. In a review of flights, the average flight to the most popular summer destinations costs $304 and lasts about 4.5 hours.
