For those who love to ski Sun Valley, be forewarned that the Sun Valley Lodge at the Sun Valley Resort will be closing in September for a nine-month remodel, which will keep it closed during prime ski season. The lodge, which opened in 1936, was the first destination ski resort in the country.

The extensive renovations will begin with the addition of a 20,000-square-foot spa near the lodge’s northern wing next month, offering 15 treatment rooms in three stories near the outdoor heated pool. When the full remodel begins, the lodge will increase room sizes, dropping from 148 rooms to about 100 suites with fireplaces and larger bathrooms. Upgrades and renovations will be made throughout the lodge, which will also be removing its dining room.
