A newly renovated, mid-century chic motel located near the beach, the Native will either win parents over because none of the rooms have televisions — or drive them nuts. Luckily, kids (and grown-ups) who can’t unplug can use the free Wi-Fi.
Rooms have fans, but no air conditioning, though that’s rarely needed in Malibu. However, there is no coffeemaker, in-room fridge, onsite dining, closets, or window screens (which makes leaving windows open for a sea breeze not ideal year-round). Consider this a spot for getting away from it all and enjoying a minimalist moment.

This Instagram-worthy Malibu gem was originally built after World War II as the Malibu Riviera Motel and has hosted many an old school movie star. The property was revamped and now incorporates ultra modern local art, custom furniture, and artisan-made hammocks. The 13 guest rooms feature the most comfortable custom mattresses, Bluetooth speakers, Wi-Fi, and retro fans. (But no air-conditioning or TV.) Relax on your private patio, go for a swim in the ocean, doine at nearby Nobu, or explore Zuma Beach, Point Dume or Topanga. Awesome spot!

Absolutely loved our experience at The Native. Sam, Lauren, and Alex were phenomenal and perfect for the vibe of the hotel. The robes are to die for. And I'm already dying to come back. The decor was minimal but very well curated. Overall A+ on this one, really enjoyed our stay.
