Nice comfortable and clean, not luxury resort

The hotel is just outside the historic city area that most tourists will want to talk in. It is a 15 minute walk, and on safe sidewalks all the way. We walked through the city at all times of the day including nighttime and it always felt safe. The hotel is clean, and the staff is gracious and kind. There was always someone at the desk who spoke English with some fluency but most people who worked at the hotel were not speaking a lot of English. Dust off your Spanish or learn a little before coming to Oaxaca and you will be glad. The rooms were large. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was varied and very good - there are not English/American options however be aware. This was part of the charm in my experience. There is a large pool which is not heated. It was enjoyable to sit around the pool and there is a staffed pool bar. The water was a bit cold in December. Do not expect a luxury American style resort and you will not be disappointed. This is a very good hotel for the price.

The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and very inviting. My room and its linens were very clean. Shower was excellent - hot water and plenty of pressure, but towels were a bit thin. AC worked very well. Our group ate in the restaurant three nights. Every night I ordered something different, and every night I was served something that did not match the description on the menu - chili rellenos and soup missing ingredients, a tough filet mignon,
