Overview
by Amanda Geronikos
Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine is just as popular with young and elderly couples as it is with families, including many international travelers — a testament to its great service and offerings that include two pools, an onsite restaurant that serves free breakfast, a fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi. The resort also has a game room and movie theater — especially great for families.
And its location, while not on Ogunquit Beach, is also ideal. It’s just steps from the Ogunquit Playhouse, a must for families visiting the area, and a short walk to town for restaurants, shops and the Marginal Way, a 1.5-mile path along the ocean that also shouldn’t be missed. And the beach itself is only 10 minutes away.

Reviews

This hotel looks very nice from the brochure but, oh dear, the reality. The pool, quite small, is right by the Route 2 and one hears the traffic roaring by all the time. We had a shock when we went in to breakfast - we we were told to take a tray, and disposable plates and cutlery, help ourselves and when we had finished to take the tray outside and put the rubbish in a bin. Not our scene!

Our room was comfortable and quiet. The beds were nice. We did not use any amenities so I cannot rate those. The free breakfast was delicious- eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and other items. The location was good - on US 1.
Family Activities
Pools
Meadowmere Resort has two pools -- one inside (with a Roman indoor sauna) and one out. The one outside is especially popular in the summer, flanked by plenty of loungers and shade. Order light snacks and drinks from the pool bar below the pool deck to enjoy while the kids play. There's also a hot tub by the pool.
The outdoor pool is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, while the indoor pool opens at 8 a.m. and doesn't close until 10 p.m.
Arcade
Kids will love the hotel's game room, complete with foosball and Ping-Pong. It's open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Movies
The resort has a movie theater, with showings at 1 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the summertime. Most movies are family-friendly, and have included "The Lorax," "Charlotte's Web," and "Frozen."
Family Dining
Breakfast
Complimentary continental breakfast is served in the West Meadow Pub from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. daily. You won't likely eat here every day (there are too many good breakfast spots to pass up in town), but it's a nice option for a quick and easy family breakfast. An assortment of breads, bagels, fruit, cereals and hardboiled eggs is served, along with coffee, tea and juice. Plenty of seating is available.
West Meadow Pub
When the resort's pub isn't serving breakfast, it offers lunch, dinner and of course, a full bar, with happy hours offered nightly. It's open noon to 10 Sunday to Friday, and noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday; food is served until 7 p.m. daily. On Saturday evenings, live entertainment is also offered.
Planning & Tips
All About the Extras
Wi-Fi
Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided and works well at the resort.
Fitness Center
The hotel's fitness center, open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., has all the necessary equipment for a good workout, plus a sauna, steam room and tanning bed.
Fire Pit
The resort has a fire pit; ask the front desk about having a fire to roast S'mores.
Parking
One parking spot is included in rates -- a major savings considering parking is sparse and comes at a fee elsewhere in Ogunquit.
The Art of Smart Timing
While Meadowmere is open all year, the resort is busiest in the summer, when families descend upon the area to enjoy the beaches and lovely little towns. With its location less than two hours from Boston, Meadowmere and Ogunquit are also popular for weekend getaways.
Getting There
Meadowmere Resort is a 1.5- to two-hour drive from Boston Logan International Airport. Portland International Jetport in Portland, Maine is closer, but serviced by less carriers. Expect a few tolls when driving in and out of the area.
Getting Around
We recommended you have your own car to get around the area, though you can also take the inexpensive Ogunquit Trolley around town.
For Mom and Dad
Spa treatments are available at the resort's day spa -- treat yourself to a relaxing deep tissue massage, body wrap, facial and more while grandma and grandpa watch the kids. Call 207-646-1322 to make reservations.
