Every bit as luxurious as the Marriott Grand Residence, the Marriott Timber Lodge is a time share property that the rest of us get to use, hotel-style. Choose from a studio and super-large one-, two- or three-bedroom units. All are beautifully designed and decorated with views of the pools, the lake or Heavenly Mountain. Most units come with fully equipped kitchens (and then some), large and opulent bathrooms that include spacious sunken tubs, at least two flat-screen TV’s, large bedrooms and stacked washers and dryers.
The beautiful pool is heated year-round (couldn’t pull my boys out on a chilly October morning), and several hot tubs are kept bubbling at all hours to soothe sore muscles. Other amenities include a large, well equipped fitness room (with a steam room in each locker room), several generously-sized hot tubs, a toddlers’ pool and restaurants (including Fire & Ice, with its three large, hands-down wonderful outdoor fire pits). A colorful and entertaining childrens’ activity center is available with scheduled activities like face painting, elaborate arts and crafts and games throughout the day. (Reservations are required.)
Both properties are an easy walk to the spectacular Lake Tahoe beaches and the casino nightlife. Both Marriotts also boast a secure parking garage with valet parking. This stay is highly recommended, decadent fun. When my kids want to return to Tahoe, they assume we’re talking about the Marriott Timber Lodge. To them, it is Lake Tahoe.

We started coming to S Lake Tahoe to ski at least 20 years ago, instead of Europe, as the snow was more reliable, queuing is more disciplined and we like the US approach to skiing. This was before Timber Lodge was built and we now have 2 weeks in Timber lodge in the Vacation Club system (along with 7 weeks elsewhere). So, I am a Marriott fan.
We don't always get the room location we prefer and that was the case on this occasion when we were here for 10 nights. However, it turned out to be OK as there was a short cut back to the main building and we didn't have the long corridor crawl we expected.
We had met the GM there a year or two ago, but she had retired and there was no GM in post while we were there (her replacement had been on-promoted in less than a year!). We did seem to have to wait longer than before for our car to arrive at the front door, even after calling ahead. The record was 15 minutes and on the last day it took over half an hour for the valet to come to collect our luggage. I almost gave up and did it myself. We tend to self-cater most nights and head over to Walmart in Carson City for groceries, where the prices are more normal. But Raley's is convenient and quality is good.

Great place to stay! Room was a condo and was great! Clean and very spacious. We could have fit a lot more people in there. Staff was very friendly. As far as location, it was pretty central in walking distance to sight see, and there is a grocery store across the street we got groceries for the full kitchen in our room. Will hopefully rebook when we revisit.
