Situated in the jungle but only a short drive into downtown San Juan del Sur, this resort is only minutes away from the beach. Families can enjoy surfing, fishing, boating, zip lining or days at the beach or pool when stay here. The kids will love the outdoor pool with sloping beach-like entry. The pool is surrounded by chairs and palapas for shade but when parents are truly seeking relaxation they can head over to the large hammock palapa which features a variety of local handmade hammocks for guests to enjoy. The bungalows feature one-, two-, or three-bedrooms all with air conditioning, fully equipped kitchens with a full-size refrigerator, satellite television and free Wi-Fi. The onsite restaurant is located poolside and features delicious cuisine. The hotel is happy to provide transportation to its scheduled daily activities, the airport, other parts of Nicaragua and even to the border of Costa Rica if you so desire.

The staff was friendly and the unit we stayed in fine, but when we checked out it left a bad taste. First, we were told we'd have to pay an additional $15 a night for air conditioning. We disputed the charge and they removed it possibly because the AC was also not working for most of our second night. Second, the listing mentioned breakfast, but at the end of our stay we were charged for it ($8/person for our family of 5 over 2 days). Third, they gave us a bill for 20 beers that wasn't ours and we had to point out that it had someone else's name on it. They realized their error.
I mention the unit was "fine" and that's because it was adequate but it smelled musty and the silverware available wasn't properly cleaned (had a powdery residue). The restaurant on site was fun for our kids - it had a ping pong table and pool table but it was also open air and you would definitely want to bring mosquito repellant. The staff, as I mentioned, where friendly and loaned us their can of OFF spray (thank you!). They were very informative about local beaches and were kind to us.
It fell apart at the end due to the disorganized billing and the ala carte charges. We paid around $430 for 2 nights and it seemed like a lot given how basic the experience was. We've had friends AirBnB at local condos who reported good experiences for less money and that's what we will likely do when we return. The value of staying at Mango Rosa was the local knowledge of its staff. It was not the "resort" itself. We left a bit deflated by all this which is sad because we enjoyed our time on the beach. The condition of our unit and our check out experience might be unique as we came to the hotel off season and during a difficult time for Nicaragua.

Mango Rosa is an absolute paradise! Greg and his fantastic team are very organized and went above and beyond to make sure that our wedding (with 50 people) ran smoothly. They coordinated a lovely beach bonfire wedding rehearsal along with ceremony on the beach and reception at Mango Rosa complete with a band, delicious food and lovely décor. In addition to the wedding my guests enjoyed yoga at the resort, horseback riding and surfing lessons! It was truly a dream come true. If you're contemplating having a destination wedding - Mango Rosa is the PERFECT place to work with. They will create the perfect, stress free wedding for you and your family to enjoy : )
