Excellent situation which allows them to charge a premium but a common thread through a lot of the reviews re building appearing tired. Second floor lake view room was ideal for us, could hear the sea pounding outside (weather was poor) but so much of the hotel and dining room needs updating. It was clean, comfortable but it deserves better. Dinner was o k in the restaurant but the service was slow, it was quiet, and the menu seemed very restricted. We just used the $5 voucher for breakfast which was fine. If competition is coming to town they will need to respond pdq.

My wife and myself stayed one night in a lakeside room which was clean, comfortable, and larger than most rooms with two queen beds in comparable hotels. That’s the good part.
The disappointing part, for me, was how dated the property seemed. From the older-style furnishings in the room to various small not well maintained details in the bath and the restaurant area (heating grills were literally hanging / falling off the wall in the dining room near the windows).
So, it’s an OK place to stay but with a new hotel scheduled to open in town soon the owners are really going to need to plow some money into the place to freshen it up and improve the condition if they want to compare well to a new place.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad place and we didn’t have a bad stay but, that said, I expected more based on rave reviews from others. I’d stay again because it was clean and service was good everywhere around the property but to rate higher (for me) they’d need to deal with the maintenance issues (at least in the dining room).
