Located steps away from Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo, the historic Lafayette Hotel is a family-friendly boutique hotel that began operating in the 1940s. The North Park hotel’s modern decor is a throwback to its original era, to provide a hip, retro vibe. Choose the hotels Suze Family Suites for a king bed for the adults and bunk beds for the kids with frosted French doors dividing the two. Kids will love coloring on the walls — the chalkboard walls, that is — and a dining table and kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator round out the space that features two LCD TVs, an iPod docking station and free WiFi. The hotel’s bungalows are two-story, two- and three-bedroom homes with unique designs and an old-fashioned charm. These homes also provide a living room, breakfast area, private entrances, full-size refrigerator, cooking range and all kitchen utensils for cooking and dining. The hotel’s Manor features standard rooms with a king or two queen beds. Poolside suites feature two queen beds and feature balconies or decks that open via French Doors to the hotel’s pool, part of the North Park swim club. The hotel also features on-site dining at Imig’s Kitchen and Bar.

We had a lovely stay at The Lafayette Hotel! The entire building is decorated with such beautiful detail and the staff was extremely helpful and kind! The highlight of the hotel is most definitely the amazing pool and surrounded swim club area! Hoping to stay here again sometime soon!

I absolutely loved this hotel. Some people have complained it's outdated but guess what it's an old hotel and that's one of the many things that appeal about it. I stayed with my two young kids (6 and 8). We have a family suite room which had bunk beds and a separate area for them which was awesome. The pool was warm. This hotel is in a great neighborhood where you are safe and close to so many things including Balboa Park. Only thing I didn't find outstanding was the restaurant and service in restaurant. The food was just ok and we were there in October so kids were supposed to eat for free for one meal but I ended up paying for them which I didn't understand.
