First, the hotel is in an excellent spot. Easy to get to and right off the bridge. We can agree with reviews that parking is tight but we visited during the down time and had no trouble parking. The hotel staff were very friendly and as so many others have stated, the breakfast was very good. The beds were very comfortable with a medium density memory foam top and the first set of pillows we had were amazing (more on that later)!
Why did we only rate at 3 stars? Our first floor “pool view” room (#145) has to be the worst room that faces out. It is literally right next to the pool entrance hall and it’s restrooms. It is also right next to the pool restaurant/bar. Also, vending machines are right in front of your door as is the housekeeping closet. This generated an extraordinary amount of noise. From the pool gate slamming till 2-3am to the kids playing in the bathrooms, to the inebriated restaurant patrons. It was far too loud. We traveled with a 2 and 1 year old and requested a room that was within our category but would allow somewhat of a view because our little ones still nap for 2 hrs every day and then are in bed by 8. Therefore we retire early. All of this means that we are in the room a lot! We understand requests are never guaranteed. But this almost seemed as a joke since we indicated our children are little and sleep. Needless to say they were awake nearly all night and the day we departed for our 8.5 hr drive home they were just miserable and worn out. If you are traveling as a couple or enjoy nightlife (we have nothing against it) room 145 is your room!! Honestly, we would have preferred a room over looking concrete walls. We booked directly w/ the hotel and it didn’t seem to sway anything. If you are a VIP or Genius member with an online booking co. book with them to get your rewards. Also, if you enjoy the pool, during busy season, think cruise ship pool in terms of space and crowd. It was packed!
On another note but very annoying, we keep a DND sign on our door at all times. The day before we left, someone had entered and replaced some items in the restroom and swapped out all the pillows for flat ones. Weird and not very settling. We also did not have the shown B&B Toiletries. We had tiny Pantene samples, lol. Might want to bring your own. So, although we enjoyed our very first visit to Padre. We would not return to this hotel. In fact, we enjoyed Padre so much we just put a deposit on a beach front condo for next year.
