Overview
by Courtney Elko
The King and Prince Resort is the only oceanfront resort on St. Simons Island, located along Georgia’s Golden Isle- and it does not disappoint! A majority of the accomodations feature amazing oceanfront or parital ocean views and families are only steps away from the sand and the pools. Families can spend the day at the beach and afternoons by the kids’ pool, then visit the onsite restaurant, ECHO, for a delicious dinner with a focus on seafood. After dinner, relax on the patio or around the fire pit and enjoy the moonlight over the ocean.
Families of any size can find suitable accomodations here, as there are a variety of options. Oceanview rooms with a balcony, two-bedroom villas, dog friendly or larger multi-bedroom guesthouses are some of the options at The King and Prince.
There is no resort fee at this Georgia family beach resort either; Wi-Fi and parking are included in rates. Your family can simply relax and play at this royal oceanfront resort on Georgia’s Golden Isle.

Room Information
Find the Best Price for Your Stay
All of the guestrooms, villas and houses feature a refrigerator, DVD player and one king or two queen beds. Cribs and rollaway beds are available upon request. Select guestrooms and houses are dog-friendly, for a fee.
Guestrooms
The 140 guestrooms found in various buildings feature oceanfront or partial ocean views from the walk-out patio or balcony. A mini-fridge and DVD player can be found in the guestrooms, along with a flat-screen television and one king or two queen beds. Two adults and a small child can fit comfortably in the guestrooms.
Villas
There are 48 one- and two-bedroom villas available. The condo-style villas are individually owned, but operated by the hotel so the décor varies in the villas and some are more updated than others. They offer a walk-out patio or balcony with oceanfront or partial ocean views; a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, microwave and plenty of cookware; a living room area with a sleeper sofa; and one or two bedrooms. A washer and dryer can also be found in the villas. Daily housekeeping service is included.
Houses
Seven large guest houses can be found on the property, each with its own individual style and multi-bedroom availability. Any size family can fit in one of the guest houses that range from one to five bedrooms. A fully equipped kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave and washer and dryer can be found in the houses, along with a fireplace in the large living rooms. There are also several bathrooms. Large patios or balconies can be found at the houses, along with BBQ grills. The houses are ideal for families looking for some additional space, but there are no ocean views from the houses -- the only drawback.

If anyone grew up in the South, they might know about St. Simons Island in the southern coast of Georgia. It's 45 miles from Savannah and it's the place where all the "Southern Wealthy Folks" used to vacation. Old money, new money and celebs have carved out their coastal retreats in this small Southern coastal town-- a town dripping with Southern hospitality as well as beautiful Spanish moss. It's the "richest, most exclusive and inaccessible club" in the world (at least in 1904 it was), so why not go there? Famous monied people like J.P. Morgan, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt, Marshall Field, and William Rockefeller are just a few examples of people that had "winter cottages" here. There is even the ultra exclusive "Sea Island," right nearby, where you can't even get on the island unless you have a condo, a home, a room reservation or Black American Express card. But the King &Prince on St. Simons Island is open to anybody. It's a stately establishment and one of my favorite places to eat and stay. Also, it is one of the few places where one can actually eat on the ocean. I've been going to the King & Prince ever since I was a kid. I love it.

Stayed for the weekend at this property. Public areas are really nice. The historic building is beautiful. Our guestroom needed some regular maintenance in a bad way.
Texture ceiling coating was peeling off of the bathroom ceiling. The recessed light over the tub was loose from the ceiling. Tile grout was pretty dirty.
Pillows were too soft for my liking, but the bed was comfy.
Family Activities
Beach
The beautiful white sandy Georgia beaches and Atlantic Ocean are only steps away from all of the accomodations at the King and Prince. During low tide, the sandy beach goes on forever. But keep an eye on the tides because during high tides, much of that beach can disappear. Beach chair and umbrella rentals are great for families and the resort will set all of your equipment up for you. During peak summer season, there are lifeguards on the public beach.
Pools
There are five pools families can enjoy while staying at the King and Prince. Smaller pools are situated near the Villas building, while the larger pool area and Family Pool can be found off the main building. There is a small kids' splash fountain in the kids' pool, which is about 1 foot deep. A larger, heated pool can also be found next to the kids' pool. Lounge chairs, umbrellas and tables surround the large pool deck, which overlooks the beach, so there's always a place to relax and enjoy the sun or shade. Pool towels are provided and the pool is open until dusk. There are no lifeguards on duty at the pool.
Recreation
Two tennis courts can be found on the property and racquets are readily available for guests. Lessons and junior lessons are also taught at select times by a local tennis expert. Poolside games and recreation for kids and families like golf putting contests are fun during the summer months, as well. Kayak, bike, and paddleboard rentals are available on the resort property, via an outside company.
Family Dining
ECHO Restaurant and Lounge
The newly renovated, modern but causal restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an outdoor oceanfront dining experience (the only oceanfront dining available on St. Simons). With a focus on the sea and local coastal dishes, ECHO offers crab cakes, shrimp and grits, burgers, lobster ravioli, pot roast, salads and seafood paella, to name a few things. The lounge serves up delicious cocktails and craft beers, too. Enjoy a cocktail and some snacks out on the patio or around the fire pit as you watch the moon rise over the ocean. Kids' menus are available. ECHO is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Sea Shack
The poolside, seasonal café can be found at the main pool and features sandwiches, salads, burgers, hot dogs and cocktails. But no matter the season, poolside service is always available from the nearby ECHO restaurant if the Sea Shack is closed.
In-Room Dining
ECHO's full menu is available for in-room dining at any time, along with Pizzeria 201 from about 2 to 10 p.m. daily. Pizza, burgers and wings are on the menu.

Getting There
Brunswick Golden Isles Aiport is about 20 minutes from St. Simons Island, but offers only limited connecting and private flights. The nearest commercial airports are Jacksonville International Airport, which is about an 70 minutes away, and the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, which is about 80 minutes away from the hotel.
Getting Around
A rental car is needed to venture off the resort property, but there isn't much of a reason to leave. The beach and pools are steps away from the guestrooms and villas and easily walkable. Strollers can also easily manuvear directly on the sand as the ocean tides allow for an extremely packed sand, great for wheels. Bicycles are also fun to tour around the island. Bike rentals can be found only a short walk down the street from the hotel.
For Mom and Dad
Royal Treatment Spa
Massage treatments at the Royal Treatment Cottage are a great way for mom and dad to relax and unwind. Reservations are recommended as the treatment area is small.
Golf
The magnificent King and Prince 18-hole Golf Course is a must for the golf enthusiasts. Tee times can easily be reserved and a day on the links will not disappoint.
