Overview

When it comes to location in Monterey, The Clement is at the heart of Monterey. Located in historic Cannery Row next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the newly built hotel, constructed in 2008, worked in conjunction with the aquarium to create a luxurious space worthy of the InterContinental brand. But it also blends well into the historic location with a commitment to the marine environment on which is the first new property built in the area in 20 years. The attention to detail includes the creation of “windows” on its boardwalk that allow sunlight to hit tidal pools in the same way it would have before the property was added. Also, one of the few InterContinental franchises, the hotel was created by the Clement family to be a family-friendly property. The handprints of the family, including those of the then 4-year-old daughter barely visible, are in the cement at the entrance to the hotel. As a family traveler himself, Clement wanted to create a property worthy of the luxury hotel name but that also catered to families. Although the hotel attempted to offer a kids’ club, it found families didn’t take advantage and instead preferred to enjoy the outdoor setting of Monterey. So the kids’ program was removed, but not its welcome to kids. When it comes to location, comfort, and commitment, The Clement is head and shoulders above other area hotels in Monterey.

This hotel and the Monterey Plaza are the best hotels in Monterey! Prices can certainly be on the higher side but it’s in a super convenient location - within a 5 minute walk of the Aquarium. The hotel is also quite large - which can be good or bad depending on your preference. We like to stay here so we’re closer to the Aquarium and so we can take our child back for a nap mid day. Totally recommend staying here!

Loved our stay here... only 2 nights wish it would’ve been longer. Staff was wonderful, room was great and you can walk to so many attractions. Short drive to Pebble Beach 17 mile drive and Carmel. Will return for sure!!!
Family Activities
Although the hotel does not offer specific family amenities, it is located next door to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and offers a special package that includes accommodations and tickets. With its location on Cannery Row, families have access to arcades and bicycle rentals for families to enjoy Monterey and the surrounding area.
Lap Pool
The hotel features a small lap pool in order to meet qualifications as a luxury hotel. While adults may not enjoy the small pool, it is very popular with children, especially with its 4-foot depth. A hot tub is nearby, too.
Spa
The hotel's spa does not have age restrictions, allowing children to enjoy services with their parents. There are no treatments specifically designed for teens or younger, but five treatment rooms are available for massages and body treatments.
Family Dining
The C restaurant is an oceanfront restaurant and part of the hotel with California coastal cuisine for indoor and outdoor dining. In the summer months, black and white movies are displayed on the wall of the neighboring building. A children's menu is available, and kids won't want to miss the Butterscotch S'more Bar desert with chocolate, graham cracker and smoked marshmallow.

The Art of Smart Timing
There is never a bad time to visit California.
Getting There
Monterey is two hours from San Francisco and five hours from Los Angeles by car, which is the preferred method of arriving in the area as it allows visitors to enjoy the views along the Pacific Coast Highway and Big Sur. Parking is readily available, and pull-off spots are also located at the height of photographic vistas. For flights, San Francisco and Los Angeles fly into Monterey Airport, with flights just 30 minutes and 1.5-miles, respectively.
Getting Around
Many in the area rent a car or drive to Monterey, to provide them with the opportunity to explore the coastline, Big Sur, Carmel and Center Valley wineries. A recreational bike trail on an old rail line makes cycling in the area easy, and the Monterey Airbus Shuttle Service is a low-cost way to get to the area from San Jose and San Francisco airports.
For Mom and Dad
Be sure to enjoy a sunset dinner in the C restaurant and sample the wine and champagne flights to get to know the wines of Central Valley.
