We recently stayed at the hotel Wales on November 1. At check in we understood we had reserved a 2 night stay. At 2 pm on Saturday, we were called back to the hotel and told we had to check out. When we did, the bill we received showed a $0 charge. A few days later we were charged an excessive $188 for late check out!

Hotel Wales is a historic hotel that has been refurbished. The rooms are a decent size and the en suite bathroom very generous. There is free tea /coffee 24 hours and a lovely roof terrace overlooking Central Park. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for the art galleries and museums on 5th Avenue, and also close to the subway with direct trains to Grand Central so very easy to get around. Central Park is on the doorstep.

There is an in house restaurant Sarabeths - great for brunch and also provides room service.

By Manhattan standards this is great value.

On the downside, the air conditioning in the room was noisy and there was no view or natural light in my room - just a wall about 1m away - these weren’t a problem for me as they come as part of the package with an old building.

I would definitely stay here again.
